Backpack Buddies Food Ministry is a partnership with Jonesboro Public Schools Math & Science Elementary School. Approximately 70% of the school's population lives in poverty with many of the students living in homes with severe food insecurity.
The Backpack Buddies Food Ministry provides weekend food sacks for the identified students who may otherwise have insufficient nourishment when school is not in session. Blessed Sacrament Parish supports the ministry with food and monetary donations, and corporate community partners are encouraged to contribute. Volunteers shop for food, prepare the sacks, and deliver them to the school each Friday morning. Thanksgiving Blessing Boxes and Summer Food Boxes are also provided for students deemed in extreme need.
